I am excited to tell you about one of my new adventures for this spring. I will begin training to run a half-marathon in Kenya at the Safaricom Marathon in Lewa on June 29, 2013. This marathon helps raise money for Tusk (http://www.tuskusa.com) an organization that promotes wildlife conservation, community development and education in Kenya.
I will run 13.1 miles in one of the toughest marathons in the world. The run is through a hilly beautiful game reserve in Northern Kenya. I have made a pledge to train six days a week and for the first time travel to Kenya. I have also committed to raising at least $7,500 (with an optimal goal of $15,000) to help Tusk educate and support the communities that live so close to wildlife so that there is more harmony and more opportunity for both wildlife and humans to succeed and thrive. In return I get to run through beautiful Northern Kenya and keep up with my fitness goals. Kenya is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world and I’m thrilled to have this oppurtunity to go. I not only want to enjoy the beauty and culture in Kenya, but also want to give back as I travel.
