THE STORY:

Mac Davis wrote -

Greetings and welcome to our fund-raising page.

My name is Mac Davis and I am a richly blessed 62-year-old man living the last 50+ years in a paradise on earth called the U.S. Virgin Islands.  The sunset photo on this page is taken from the terrace of our home (scroll to the right to the last picture).

My richest blessings are my wonderful wife of 36 years, Debbie, and my three grown children (Joseph, Elizabeth and Elliott) and the two "in-hearts" (Stanley and Erin) who married my elder two. My veterinary surgeon daughter is my co-campaigner and co-marathon runner, having run by my side and finished with me the last 5 of 7 marathons I have run since 2002. Given all of the foregoing, how could we not be motivated to try our best to give back in some modest way?

And then there is this:

I have been battling kidney cancer for 16 years, the last 11 as a Stage IV incurable patient. After several months of bad medical news showing progression of my disease, my incredible luck came to the rescue once again this week when I was admitted to my second clinical trial of an experimental drug, this one at Harvard University's Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.  Participation will require me to commute to Boston every other week for two months and then monthly afterwards.  Just now, I have no idea how I will manage the logistics or finances of such an endeavor (all the while working full time as legal counsel to the Governor of the Virgin Islands). But not for nothing is my penname PressOnRegardless.

Our charity is the Virgin Islands Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Surviving cancer requires strength, determination, and unfortunately in modern America, money.  The Society assists Islanders with expenses for treatment, drugs, and travel to cancer centers on the mainland. The cost can be overwhelming and by cost, I include the chronic stress that is regrettably part and parcel.  The ACS's kind and compassionate support for local patients and their caregivers is second to NONE. I am humbly honored to help them in their mission.

Please make a donation and join our fundraising team.  Elizabeth and I will do the work of running 350 miles in training and then 26.2 miles on race day through the five boroughs of New York City.  No contribution is too large or small.  All will go toward giving real human beings extra days, weeks, months or even futures with their loved ones.

We humbly thank you for your time and attention and gratefully acknowledge in anticipation your hard-earned dollars contributed to this worthy cause.  You can also expect a sincere and prompt thank you note from me as well, not that this is likely much of a motivator.  Put simply, your donation is the right thing to do.

And to think I might have missed this...
