EVENT DATE Feb 18, 2017

THE STORY:

Hi, all. I am a School Board member in Bethel, Vermont. I'm running a 100-mile ultra-marathon race in February 2017, called Rocky Raccoon, which will be held in Huntsville, Texas. I am currently in heavy training, and will continue it through the chill of winter. I've never run 100 miles at one time (Who in their right mind would?) but I have run eight marathons and three ultras of 31, 36, and 50 miles. They were tough, but I can do more. Unless I get sick or injured beforehand, or completely fall apart during the race, I expect to finish. Three fundamental beliefs are driving this fundraiser: 1. I believe that post-secondary education is a must for success in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. 2. I believe that all public schools should have an expectation of post-secondary follow-through for its students and that classroom instruction and activities should be driven by that expectation. 3. I believe that too few girls are encouraged to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in college. So, I am running this race in order raise money to start a scholarship in my local area for girls declaring a STEM major in college. The scholarship will be awarded to a female senior attending high school in either Whitcomb (Bethel), Royalton, Rochester, or Chelsea schools. The decision as to who receives the award will be made by the Superintendent and Principals. Any and all funds raised will be going directly toward the scholarship, apart from fees for this fundraising service. No money will be used to defray my costs for the race. I am asking for donations of 25¢ per mile. That's $25. If I can get 60 folks to commit, I will hit the target of $1500. I hope you will consider donating to this important cause. It will help a young woman in our rural mountain community with college costs. She could turn out to be the next Lisa Randall, Fabiola Gianotti, Marie Curie, or Maria Goeppert Mayer. Who knows? Thanks. Todd
