BENEFITING: Mental Health America
I am raising money and running this event in honor of Ken Folsom. He was one of the founders of the New England 65+ Runners Club where he is also in the Hall of Fame. It wasn't until later in his life that he fell in love with the joys of running but he continued to, impressively, run his races into his 80's. He would come to family events and was always enthused to tell me that he won another recent race. For me, seeing his excitement in running was a motivation. I loved the sport on my own, but he was an inspiration to demonstrate that it is truly a passion to enjoy for years to come. With Ken's joy for running, he also suffered from depression. This became more debilitating for him as the years went on. I am running this half marathon to honor Ken Folsom and his joy for running with the hopes to raise money for ongoing research on mental health disorders and the progression of these treatments. Today, 1 in 4 individuals suffer from a mental health disorder. It would be an honor to have any donation to Mental Health Awareness to progress the management of these progressively worsening diseases. Thank you.
