I'm Sara, a student at Oberlin College, majoring in dance, and I am running the marathon in support of the Trans Lifeline, a crisis line dedicated to the well being of trans people.
With all of the recent events effecting me & the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community, it sometimes feels vulnerable and scary to express and love my authentic self.
In running, I am trying to find strength. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and what I call, “heart strength”. The strength to be vulnerable in living my truth. The strength to keep operating from a place of compassion towards all people, not all of whom I agree with, not all of whom agree with me. The strength to keep going when it sometimes feels easier to give up. The strength to love the me that can be: sad, awkward, silly, angry, anxious, weird, depressed, insecure… etc. The strength to keep running, dancing, and being who I am in an imperfect world.
That is what being queer means to me. Our love, our community, is stronger than any hate or ignorance. You can support me by donating to the Trans Lifeline, or just by sending good vibes. :) Love and peace!
