September is SO busy; I need one weekend off of activities. 2. I haven't been running, and it's going to be so painful and obvious. 3. $40 to go for a run? But then I saw Rett's adorable picture, and I remembered why his story moved me so much. Everett Cavan ("Rett") died from a rare form of cancer. He was just 2 months shy of his 1st birthday. His mother, Deana, was in the same Ph.D. program as I had been; his father, Jim, worked at the time for a local environmental group. They lived locally, and they could have been me. Deana and Jim and all the other surviving families that benefit from Rett's Roost inspire me so much. They fight for their children every day. All they want is their children to be healthy and to be free of pain. As a mom, I have been so fortunate to have healthy kids. Rett made me appreciate that every day. $40 is nothing compared to how much families fighting a disease like cancer have to pay. It's like 2 copays. This money benefits those who are fighting or living through cancer or who have lost a child to this terrible disease. That money pays for airfare which probably averages $300/ticket these days. It pays for accommodations. It pays for food. But really, thanks to these funds, Rett's Roost retreats do SO MUCH MORE. They heal broken families. We can't cure the disease or heal the bodies, but we can help the souls. Now, I haven't asked for your support in quite some time. The last fundraiser I did was Team in Training, raising money for leukemia research and patient support. Those days I was running a lot. I ran half marathons. I ran in honor of another family that lost their baby girl, Claire. She was the same age as my nephew. That was about 10 years ago now. I didn't know most of you back then. You can support me in several ways, and they will mean so much to me, the Cavan family, and all those that benefit from Rett's Roost. First of all, you can make a donation right now. Help me blow my personal fundraising goal out of the water. If you can't donate, then consider running with me. I'll be near the back probably, or middle of the pack if I am lucky. OR, if you can't donate or run, then volunteer. And cheer me on!! Every dollar counts. Do it for me, do it for Everett, do it for someone you love that has or had cancer, or do it in honor of your own healthy children/family. Thank you!!!
