BENEFITING: St Paul Central High School Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
On October 9, 2016, I'm running the Twin Cities marathon in my hometown of Saint Paul, Minnesota. I'm running this race in honor of Saint Paul Central High School, my alma mater.
Students who attended my high school include the likes of Amelia Earhart, an aviation pioneer and womens advocate; Dave Winfield, MLB Hall of Famer; Charles Schulz, one of the most influential cartoonists of all time; and (perhaps most notably for me) my three older siblings. I'm extremely proud of graduating from Saint Paul Central, the oldest public high school in Minnesota.
Like many people during the week of July 7, 2016, I felt helpless in terms of what I could do for my Minnesota community after a fellow Central High School alum, Philando Castile, was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop. Castile wasn't just a member of the Central community, but also an employee of Saint Paul Public Schools for the last 12 years.
It's difficult to know how best to help during the recent, heartbreaking events, but supporting an urban high school strikes me as a good start. Central is rich in history, but not in resources. Please help me support Saint Paul Central, now entering its 150th year, and help this fine school build on its legacy.
