Fortunately, I have not had to experience this first hand, but my mother and sister in law have both been through the miscarriage of a child. In addition to their losses, I have had a friend very close, lose their child fairly late in pregnancy, and several other friends miscarry within the first few weeks of pregnancy. With my decision to run a half marathon 'pregnant', I felt compelled to raise awareness for this silent tragedy that so many women suffer through. Did you know 20% pregnancies end in miscarriage? Unfortunately, I was not made aware of this statistic until I was pregnant myself. My hope going forward is that there are more resources made available to those who are grieving, education is made readily available, and that the spirit of all babies who are lost, live on in the hearts of their loved ones.
