BENEFITING: TEAM RED WHITE & BLUE
I’m planning my race calendar for the rest of spring through fall, and God-willing and injury free I hope to be able to do quite a few races, each to benefit a different charity or organization that supports veterans of all branches of the military. I aim to raise awareness about the needs of our veterans and their families, and even more, to show everyone ways that you can help that you might not otherwise be aware of. For each race, I’ll be covering my own entry fees and selecting a special organization to raise money for, and spreading the word about what each charity does in the time leading up to each race.
We live in a country where we have the right not to support wars, and the freedom of speech to express that. But we must support those who fight the wards, and those who serve to keep our country a place where we have these freedoms. The number of veterans a day who commit suicide in this country is a sad, shameful statistic. We have no excuse for the number of veterans who are jobless and homeless. We must do more. We must give more. We must help more. Our veterans have sacrificed for our well-being and protection, so that people like me can do something as simple as running freely. No veteran should ever be jobless. No veteran should ever be homeless. And no veteran should ever feel helpless. We ask, and even expect that soldiers protect us. But when they come home, what are we doing to protect them? It is time for We the People to serve those who have served us.
