Running SeaWheeze Half Marathon for LiveUp Programs
Organized by: Lauren Seserko
I have the opportunity to run the super popular sold out Lululemon SeaWheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver on August 13, 2016. Flying across the country on short notice is taxing on my graduate school student budget so I'm looking to offset some of my costs. Since the Seawheeze race does not have a charity partner, I thought it would be great to help create a fundraiser that benefits an organization of my choosing to tie in with my race experience and help increase recognition. 2 weeks ago I spent my weekend in Boston as a mentor in my very first LiveUp program. LiveUp Programs organizes long weekend programs for adult's with Down syndrome. I'd love to donate over half of what I raise to LiveUp Programs!
LiveUp organizes programs filled with fun activities such as bowling to healthy cooking, which encourages participants to develop life skills, social skills and healthy-living habits. Each participant is paired with a similarly aged volunteer mentor to help participants learn, while having fun in a safe, supportive environment. LiveUp is a completely 100% volunteer organization! In 2016, LiveUp Programs will be staying in Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Washington D.C and hosting over 105 participants and 140 staff from all across North America. Donations can help provide quality housing and programming in every city as well as scholarships to those participants in need. I'd love to give back to an organization that gave me a weekend full of so much laughter and learning. It's truly amazing to get to spend time with the group of participants and learn from them as much as they learn from you.
