Please support our team in raising money for the Bay Area chapter of Black Lives Matter (fiscal sponsor: Coleman Advocates). "Black Lives Matter advocates for dignity, justice, and respect... Black Lives Matter is an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression." (from http://blacklivesmatter.com website)
Historically, athletes have used their place in society to raise awareness about important social justice issues from Muhammad Ali refusing to fight in Vietnam, to Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising their fists in the 1968 Olympics, to Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the national anthem today.
While we are not elite athletes, we run to raise awareness about the impact of systemic racism in this country. We run to support those who are on the front lines of building and growing a movment for Black lives that is grounded in love and that works towards long-term, intersectional, wide-spread systemic change. We run to support those who are courageous and powerful in standing up to police violence and state violence both locally and nationally.
Donating to this movement is one way that we can support people on the front lines of this work. It is one way we can use our resources to contribute to the fight for reparations, equity, and a reduced disparity in wealth between white and black communities. It is one way to put our resources where our hearts are.
