I’m Frank Mworozi, I teach Economics and Geography at the Secondary School at Nakivale Refugee Settlement. I also coach athletics & futbol at the school. Our school’s idea is for us to become the sports center for all of Nakivale settlement – the only place where there are fields and courts that meet international standards. So even when school is not in session, people can come here to use the facilities.
My specific idea is to make a track at our school. We would demark lanes so that runners would know their lane, and we’d measure distances so that we knew we weren’t running too far or too short. We have learners here at the school who are really talented, but they don’t reach far because it’s hard for them to practice. We need a good place for them to train and keep developing their skills. And I know there are other running groups in Nakivale who need a place to practice, too.
If it’s possible, we’d also like to purchase some running shoes for our team. The students will share shoes, but it’s hard for any person to excel without the right equipment.
