BENEFITING: SHINE ON SIERRA LEONE
EVENT DATE: Dec 22, 2013
While many of you know, some may not, I'm an ultra marathoner. I've run numerous 100Miler and 50Miler races. On December 22nd, I have committed to run with my friend Simon, an unassisted a 175M run which will finish on Christmas Day. I have added the additional burden of raising money for an organization I care deeply about, Shine On Sierra Leone.
I can selfishly say, this journey is for me. The financial goal and the significance of its impact will create is a necessary obligation that will force me not to quit...to keep going when it seems impossible, and for those of you in finance, given how much you know I respect people who commit capital with me, a further incentive.
My buddy has been writing a blog about this which, if you have the time to read (he's somewhat long winded so I've included the posts, selfishly, specific to me :) ), I would encourage. Here are some links:
Whether you can donate or not, I would appreciate if you have the time to follow on Twitter (https://twitter.com/simonsrockyroad) during the run as any encouragement you can provide would be immensely helpful. We will be giving updates, photos, videos, cursing at the pain. Trust me, the want to quit will be there many times, so any "kick In the ass" you can provide will be welcome. Also, any individuals you can forward to this to is SO much appreciated, regardless of donations a simple "kick in the ass" with suffice. Thanks so much.
What I love about this organization is that they are committed to helping to shift the mindset surrounding poverty and charity and graduating self realized individuals who can solve their own countrys challenges. It's this type of unwaivering mindset that will guide me on this journey. It's the perfect mantra to selfishly give me another incentive to not QUIT):
