BENEFITING: NEWTOWN MEMORIAL FUND INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I always said if I ever decided to run a second marathon, it was going to be the New York City Marathon, an iconic race. The opportunity to fundraise while training for the event appeals to me, and is the route I took to participating in this year's event. When faced with many charity organizations from which to choose, one stuck out and stuck with me: Newtown Memorial Fund.
You see, I have my good boy Levi, now 6 1/2 years old, and he was in kindergarten at Bryden Elementary in Beachwood, Ohio the morning of the Newtown tragedy. My mind raced as I remembered that both Marni and I interviewed in Connecticut for residency training...If you had a kid in kindergarten or first grade that day or ever sent your child to school, things weren't right until you could get home and hug or talk to your child...and if you couldn't, well, that is why I am raising money for the Newtown Memorial Fund. 26 homes and a community were changed forever on that day, when 26 souls were taken too early from this Earth. The events of Newtown shook me to the core, and I wanted to help then but did not know the best way how.
Please help me to raise money for the Newtown Memorial Fund, which provides services to the families students and staff affected by the tragedy, will establish a meaningful permanent memorial, and will provide academic scholarships and community renewal events and activities for the residents of Newtown to move forward from this tragedy and not be defined by it. I must raise $3,000 for the Fund as a charity-affiliated runner of the New York City Marathon. I am throwing the gauntlet down to donate $262, corresponding to the 26.2 miles that I will run this November in the Marathon. Please help me raise the remaining $2,738 to reach my fundraising goal of $3,000 for Newtown Memorial Fund.
Run far. Live long. Help out.
