BENEFITING: KIDS RUNNING AMERICA
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
As many of you know I choose to do endurance events every now and again. These events require a bunch of time training by myself. One of the things that make those long efforts really meaningful is when I can somehow turn these events from something fun for me to something that will positively impact others.
This is where you come in. I am hoping you will join me and support my efforts to fight the epidemic of childhood obesity. The statistics are horrifying. Some report that 1 in 5 kids are diagnosed as obese. It is even worse in lower income families. It is quite possible that our kid's generation may actually have a lower life expectancy than ours.
I am using my NYC Marathon experience in November, as a way to raise money for an organization that my family is very involved with - Kids Running America. Rachel and I volunteer a ton of time and Rachel is actually the Program Director. To be transparent she does not draw any salary but a very small portion of her expenses are reimbursed by the organization. 100% of contributions raised through these efforts will be used to cover the program fees for the neediest youth in our community. My race fees and all my expenses are 100% covered by me.
The organization is 4 years old and to-date they have impacted over 7,600 kids’ lives. They are looking to impact over 13,000 kids’ lives by 2013. Today the organization consists of two very passionate people, Rachel and the Executive Director, Kerry Vargo.
Kids Running America, is a 501 (c) (3) incremental running program designed for kids to train for the 26.2 mile marathon distance over a given time frame, finishing their final distance at one of our KRA Final Mile Events. www.kidsrunningamerica.org
