BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Association
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2011
I've been training for the last 3 months to run the Providence Marathon this coming May 1st. It's been quite the experience involving many a blister, peanut butter craving, muscle spasm, and Ben & Jerry's binge.....but it was all worth it!
I want to use this run to fundraise for a cause that's important to me and my family: research into Alzheimer's and the care of those who have it. My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's and we've seen how debilitating the disease can be. We also know how important and truly life-changing it is to have the public aware of the disease, to have good care for those afflicted, and for research towards a cure to be well funded. I've chosen to donate any money I raise to the Alzheimer's Association, a great organization that promotes awareness, gives care to those with Alzheimer's, and funds/directs research into the disease. The organization meets the Standards for Charity Accountability of the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance, meaning it gives at least 70% of its profits to those causes, so I feel safe donating raised money to them!
Please please donate to the cause or come to the race!
Suggestions: if you don't know what to donate, you can give a certain amount per mile I have to run.
$1 per mile translates into a $26 donation
50 cents per mile translates into $13
...but if you're feeling generous, please donate more!
Thanks to everyone who's supported me in this, please donate, and I hope to see you all downtown at the race!
PS: I haven't explained Alzheimer's disease for sake of space, but if you want to know more about it please go here (http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_what_is_alzheimers.asp)
