"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do."
I am one. One who has been blessed with a happy, healthy life. One who is incredibly humble because of that. One who knows what a blessing it is to wake up every morning and have the power to do something great. One who has a generous heart but doesn't always know how to share it. But I think I came up with one good idea.
I enjoy running. Using the very, truly awesome Runkeeper app, I have been tracking my progress Since September, 2009. To date, I've run ̶4̶4̶5̶ ̶m̶i̶l̶e̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶b̶u̶r̶n̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶6̶3̶,̶0̶0̶0̶ ̶c̶a̶l̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ 580 Miles and burned over 81,000 calories!! And to date, I've run for my own benefit. I've lost over 80 pounds. And now it's time to say thanks for this blessing of life and give back.
In the Running for a Purpose project, I'll track the miles I run this year and donate $1 for each mile to an important cause: The Stephen Kennedy Gates Memorial Fund. Why this one, you may ask? Well, because Stephen Gates was a great person who's life was taken far too early. But Stephen isn't just anyone, he was the oldest son of my Godparents. Please read about this fund here: http://jomc.unc.edu/stephen I have no answer for why Stephen isn't here with us today, but I'd like to think it's because God really needed a top-notch color commentator for the ball games up there in Heaven, and man, is He lucky to have Steve.
I am only one. I will do my best to raise money for your Memorial Fund, Steve, and if anyone would like to donate to this cause (it's tax-deductible!!), I'm sure the Gates family will be greatly appreciative.
Please use the JMOC/UNC link above to donate directly to the fund and keep me posted if you do. I'll include your donation into the total up there on the right! Or, you can always click that donate button to make it really easy (minus a very small processing fee from Crowdrise). Either way, it's a tax-deductible donation and you'll receive an electronic receipt for those IRS dudes.
If you can't give money, at least give a shout out by posting a comment on my profile http://www.crowdrise.com/AnnieSchneider to let me know you stopped by and to let the Gates family know you're thinking about them! Do you have another idea for raising awareness for this fund? Do you want to help me spread the word to your friends and family? Let me know and we'll add you to the team! You'll get your own project page to customize, too!
Thanks to all who are supporting this cause through your words and actions. You gave to someone else today! The world needs more people like you!
Take care and God bless...
