Running for Bald Kids
Organized by: Maryliz Melius
EVENT DATE Nov 07, 2015
I'm Maryliz Melius, a nurse at Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital. I take care of "bald kids", aka kids battling cancer. I'm running the Disney Food and Wine Half Marathon in honor of these amazing kids. Everyday, they teach me how to be strong, courageous, and how to live life! All the money will go to the Jorge Nation Foundation. This foundation is a "non-profit organization who's purpose is to raise funds to send children stricken with a terminal or serious illness and their families on a once-in-a-lifetime all inclusive Dream Trip to a destination of their choice." I love this foundation because they gave one of my favorite patient's his dream trip to Gainesville, FL to meet the Florida Gator Football Team and watch a Gator Game. It is very special to me and I will never forget his face when he was given the trip and had the time of his life. Please help me raise money to help other kids have their dream trip!
My Heroes are the kids with cancer.
They ride IV poles down the hallways. They have bald heads but are still beautiful. They go through chemo, radiation, and lots of pokes. They smile even though they are fighting for their lives. They may be small but they are mighty.
