BENEFITING: Newborn Holistic Ministries, Inc.
Each year, I raise funds for an organization in order to give back some of the good I've discovered in my running adventure. This year, I've chosen Newborn Holistic Ministries. They are a community based nonprofit in Baltimore, Maryland. I thought it was appropriate to help my hometown through this organization. Newborn Holistic Ministries serves approximately 50 women per year through Martha's Place, a recovery program for women overcoming drug addiction and homelessness. The program offers a 6 month transitional phase and long-term independent housing. In 2008, a second community program called Jubilee Arts was established to provide a comprehensive arts program as an alternative to the dangers of drugs and violence in the community. Jubilee Arts provides art classes six days a week and cultural activities to both children and adults and serves approximately 1,500 people annually. They have also worked to revitalize the 1900 and 2000 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue through the full renovation of six previously vacant buildings, and has acquired seven vacant lots adjacent to them and transformed them into green spaces, gardens, and murals. Please join me in supporting this local organization!
