BENEFITING: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago
EVENT DATE: Apr 06, 2014
As some of you know, I am on the Board of Advisors for Catholic Charities Legal Assistance, and our main fundraising event is coming up on April 10th at the Union League Club in Chicago. A couple days before the fundraiser, I will be running the Chi-Town Half Marathon in Lincoln Park on Sunday, April 6th at 8:15am. As part of and in preparation for the big event, my goal is to raise $1500.00 for CCLA, partially as a result of any sympathy you might feel for me running 13.1 miles in a few weeks without having begun training (yet).
Why should you donate? CCLA began as a volunteer initiative in 2005 to assist Catholic Charities' clients who may find themselves confronted with legal issues that threaten core elements of their existence, yet they cannot afford an attorney. I volunteered at CCLA full-time during the fall of 2010, and in answering the calls on the hotline and providing legal advice, I realized what a huge help even quick or shot-term legal advice can be to those facing eviction, welfare, or family law issues. Today, CCLA is staffed with attorneys and volunteers who face increased demands for their services in the poor economic climate. I hope you consider donating to support an organization that provides very necessary help to those less fortunate in the Chicagoland area.
