On Sunday, April 27th, I will be running in the Thomas G. Labrecque Classic “Run as One” 4-mile race with the hope of raising lung cancer awareness and vital research dollars to find a cure. To date, the Foundation has raised over $8 million dollars for lung cancer research and awareness.
Since 2007, the Foundation has been focused on funding research to detect lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. Since 2009, 100% of funds raised have gone to fund research, not overhead.
Once again, I will be running in honor of my grandmother, Lillian Foggetti, who lost her battle with lung cancer in 2009. Not a day goes by where I don't think of her or miss her beautiful smile, laugh, and love. It was devastating for my famiy and I to lose her so quickly, but I am grateful to have had such an inspirational and strong role model in my life.
Lung cancer is the world's top cancer killer, claiming more than 1.3 million lives per year. Once thought to be only a smokers' disease, statistics now show that over 60% of people diagnosed with lung cancer have either never smoked or have quit smoking.
With your help, we can develop simple imaging and blood tests that can be used for the earliest detection of this otherwise lethal cancer that affects all of us - smokers, non-smokers and former smokers alike
Thank you so much for your generosity and support. This one's for Grammy.
"Love you more."
