BENEFITING: NEW ENGLAND INNOCENCE PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
Leading up to the Boston Marathon last year I was overwhelmed by the support and the impact that your donations made to the Running for Innocence campaign. Thanks to you I raised over $2,000 for this one event! The work of the New England Innocence Project continues every day for over 40 active innocence cases in MA alone. And it is making a difference already, with several cases currently receiving financial support from RFI for investigation and expert assistance in proving innocence.
Over the past year, I've been honored to get to know Victor Rosario, a man who spent 32 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, and is now free thanks to the tireless efforts of the experts and investigators involved in his case. The last time I saw Victor he told me that he used to run laps (including a full marathon of 76 laps) inside the prison walls, and he dreamed of someday running the Boston Marathon. With a persistent effort, and a team that is now 50 runners strong and growing, I am hopeful that NEIP can get charity bibs, including one for Victor, for Boston in 2017.
This is why I am particularly excited to once again dedicate my Boston Marathon effort to the goal of raising money and awareness for the New England Innocence Project in its Running for Innocence campaign. The money I raise will help those who are wrongly convicted to secure their freedom. Every dollar raised will help pay the costs of hiring experts and investigators, without whom many innocent people will remain behind bars for crimes that they didn’t commit.
