My friend Jaime was recently diagnosed with bone cancer shortly after her 18th birthday. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and everyone is hopeful for a full recovery.
Hearing the news left me feeling upset, confused, and helpless. How could this happen to my friend? Someone so young and full of life, someone so kind and energetic. Although we live on different continents, Jaime is in my thoughts every day. I felt this wasn't good enough though. What could I do to help? I can't do much to physically help Jaime in her battle with cancer, but I can run! I figured I could run and raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Last year, around 1.5 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In 2006, it was estimated that 11.4 million people in the U.S. were living with a history of cancer. Most likely everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. The American Cancer Society works to educate people, support cancer patients and survivors, and research the causes and cures of cancer. Its work is crucial, and any donations would be much appreciated.
Please help support me in my participation in the San Francisco Half Marathon and the Nike Women's Half Marathon. I've never run anywhere near 13.1 miles, so this is going to be a big challenge for me. My fundraising goal can be reached if just 100 people donate $25. Please consider donating to this cause and sending this page to your friends and family, or even joining my team on Crowdrise. Thank you!
