BENEFITING: Nepal Orphans Home, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 10, 2013
Support the Mission of two Smith Women who are running for ”Hope”, the little Nepali baby who twice almost never was… Today they run for her and one day they will run with her!
Please take the time to read the story below provided by the Nepal Orphans Home and support Rena Peng and Anne Hunter in their 13.1 mile run to raise money for Hope's prosthetic legs.
Hope’s journey to us began one night in her desolate village when at 12 weeks old her mother who suffers from mental illness slashed off her daughter’s feet with a small scythe used for cutting grass. Villagers rushed to her aid and carried her to a local clinic which sent her on to Kathmandu Teaching Hospital 2 hours away. We received the following report:
“She was called gone by a senior doctor; she arrived pretty well bled out after a long journey from her village to the ER at Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, she went into cardiac arrest, a junior doctor applied paddles twice without her coming back, the senior doctor called it over but the junior said one more time and Hope wailed back to life.”
We named her Hope Angel, she is legally ours, and she is our daughter thanks to the efforts of many. Her future will include operations and prosthetics, it will be very emotionally taxing, but in coming to know Hope I know she will carry each step with grace and dignity.
One day I will watch her graduate from a great school like Smith College and one day with the stroke of a pen Hope will change thousands of lives for the better.
Nepal Orphans Home attends to the welfare of children in Nepal who are orphaned, abandoned, or not supported by their parents. Papa’s House provides for the children’s basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing, as well as schooling and health care, and administers to their emotional needs with love and compassion. Papa’s House allows children to grow up in a nurturing environment. The mission of Nepal Orphans Home is not just to rescue children from abject poverty, but to enable the children to develop and realize their potentials.
