The mission of Meghan's Foundation (Meghan Shortt Wilent Foundation) is to create awareness and develop trauma-sensitive yoga and meditation programs for veterans experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Veterans who have attended Meghan's Foundation's free yoga classes include men and women from ages 26 to 75, who served in Vietnam, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. They are reporting better sleep and concentration, an ability to calm themselves when confronted with flashbacks, and generally an improved quality of life. This is consistent with studies showing that yoga and meditation are effective tools for alleviating PTSD symptoms.
We originally created this fundraiser to get sponsors for our 10K run at the 34th Annual Revolutionary Run on July 4, and as of May 26, we generated an awesome $2,875 from lots of generous folks. As promised, we are still running the 10K, but on May 27, our fundraiser was entered the new Veterans Charity Challenge 2. That way, all future donations will be eligble for challenge prizes of up to $20,000!
Please help us win the Challenge by donating whatever you can, so Meghan's Foundation can help many more veterans in PA, NJ and beyond. Donated funds are primarily used for renting classroom space, hiring teachers with special training in trauma sensitivity, and buying vets their own yoga mats and instruction manuals so they can develop a daily practice at home. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help this great cause.
