WE DID IT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County, New York, provides a sanctuary for local Latino farm workers and their families. A compassionate environment of outreach and hospitality, MSMM offers a sense of belonging, as well as a center to learn life skills. In 1990 the Sisters of Divine Compassion established the Ministry to nurture and care for children while their parents worked in the fields. These children would otherwise be left unattended, expected to perform household chores and mind younger siblings. Under the direction of Sr. Pam Wagner, Sr. Fran Liston, and many volunteers, MSMM provides a loving and safe place where they can just be kids. Through year round supervised activities, field trips, and play, they learn how to become better friends, accept the diversity of others, and develop the confidence to establish and achieve life-long goals. This unique ministry is crucial to the wellbeing of these children and their families.
A Growing Need
Presently MSMM faces a major financial challenge. Traditionally the program has been funded through a combination of private donations, grants, fundraising events, and its primary sponsor, Sisters of the Divine Compassion. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, Sisters of the Divine Compassion will no longer be able to subsidize the Ministry as of October 2014. MSMM will then be completely responsible for all operating expenses required for running programs, maintaining the ministry house, property, and vehicles, as well as paying salaries. The future of the Ministry is dependent upon securing the funds necessary for immediate and long-term sustainability.
Some of the DaKids are all grown up and want to give back to Mustard Seed. So they are running Detroit's Marathon! Friends and family are also helping spread the word and you too can support us!
