BENEFITING: PANCREATIC CANCER ACTION NETWORK INC
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2013
Since my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the middle of 2012, I've struggled to think of something, anything, to do that would honor her fight, thank the unbelievably generous people who have stood by her side during this impossible struggle, and celebrate, in a small way, the gift of good health, which I appreciate now more than ever. As my mother fights the hardest fight of her life, I've decided to pick the greatest challenge of my own life: To run a marathon in her honor. The simple act of running, of going out on an open road and putting one leg in front of another until you feel like you can't take another step, offers a unique and unspeakable kind of spiritual reward -- and it's made all the more poignant because I can dedicate the reward to her. One thing I've learned from this hardship is to cherish our precious and even more precious time here, and I want to use this marathon to bring more awareness to this horrible disease. One race and one donation isn't enough to find a cure. It is just another step, another leg in front of another leg. But with enough small steps and long strides, I hope, we'll reach the end of the larger race to find a cure.
