BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
As many of you know, back in 2006 when I trained for my first marathon, I did so through Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. I trained with my cousin, Rachel Cox, in my heart. At that time she was battling relapsed Hodgkins Lymphoma. She underwent chemo and a stem cell transplant at Sloan Kettering in 2007 and then spent six years in remission. Rachel started living her life in her regular, healthy way.
I ran the marathon and a few more after that and all seemed well. Then fast forward to this past April to when she has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). As I am learning through her horrible ordeal....it is Leukemia that is caused by cancer chemo treatments.
Really? How can this happen? More importantly how can we stop it from happening to others....?? In my hopeless attempt to help....I have signed up for the New York City Marathon and want to raise money for research and treatment for Rachel and for those in her condition. Won't you join me?
