BENEFITING: Research Down Syndrome
EVENT DATE: Apr 04, 2014
After running 3.21 miles in a World Down Syndrome Day event, my 6-yr old son Lucas asked if that run only happened on "Down Syndrome Day" because he wanted to do another one. I explained to him the logo on our shirts was for RDS Runners and if he wanted he could run in events and other people could support him by donating to RDS Runners. The donations help the scientists who are doing research to help people with Down syndrome. He said he wanted to do that and told his sister, Kayla, who has Down syndrome, "I'm going to run to help you Kayla. I'm going to run for you."
The first event since World Down Syndrome Day is the Cooper River Bridge Kids Run. Since this is a mile instead of a 5K, Kayla will also be joining Lucas in this event (she will probably do more walking then running, but that's ok!) Self-advocacy has to start somewhere!
Please support them with a small donation to their first joint running venture as junior runners for Research Down Syndrome! Thank you!
