Dear Friends and Family,

Happy New Year!!

On April 27, 2014, I will run the Big Sur Marathon and while the 26.2 journey will likely be exhausting – it is no match for the long road many youth face who are disproportionately exposed to violence and poverty – often as a result of needing to flee their home country due to war.

Therefore, a few of my good friends are partnering together to support an organization called Level Ground, which leverages mixed martial arts to unleash the strength, power, and ingenuity of urban youth to fight for and seize their dreams. The funds raised will also be targeted to start a special project called Refugee Resilience – which will promote change for refugee children by fostering resilience and hope through awareness, research and education.

April 15, 2013, changed the city of Boston and the lives of many when two refugee children turned to violence and bombed the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Our goal with the Refugee Resilience project is to allow the opportunity for refugee children to share their stories of resilience and raise awareness about their unique experiences. In addition, through this research we hope to identify the factors associated with resilience in this population so that we may better support their needs and provide them with a hopeful future. A future free from violence.

Any donation toward this effort is greatly appreciated. Please contact me at with any questions. I am incredibly grateful for your support!
