BENEFITING: Research Down Syndrome
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2013
On November 2, I am running a marathon as a fundraiser for Research Down Syndrome. My nephew, Richie, was born with Down syndrome and turns 16 months old the same day as the marathon. Richie is a happy baby boy talking fluently in baby language. As a family we want to continue to watch him develop and with enough funding, Research Down Syndrome can help make it possible.
The mission of this charity is to fund and support scientific research directed toward the development of safe and effective drug therapies that will improve memory, learning and communication in people with Down syndrome and address the increased likelihood for Alzheimer's disease.
This will be my 12th marathon and I will continue to run future marathons as fundraisers because the money raised will help improve Richie's future. I ran the San Francisco marathon in 2012 as a fundraiser for Research Down Syndrome. When I crossed the finish line, I chatted briefly with the race officials and obtained a second medal for Richie. At the time he was in the NICU and only a few weeks old. He was the best looking baby at Georgetown University Hospital sporting a marathon medal! I'll do a little chit chatting at this marathon too so he can start a collection of medals.
Any donation of your choice will be greatly appreciated. My family thanks you very much for your efforts. Feel free to follow Research Down Syndrome on Facebook so you can be updated with their progress. https://www.facebook.com/ResearchDS.org?directed_target_id=0 or visit their website www.researchds.org
I'll be posting my training runs as well as pictures of the marathon on Facebook. If we're not currently friends, send me a request if you like. www.facebook.com/meganmozart
