BENEFITING: CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS FOUNDATION
EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2011
EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2011
Join me (and some running buddies) as we honor my dad and get some exercise in the 2011 San Francisco Marathon! I will be running the 1st half marathon on July 31, 2011.
We are running in honor of Rob Zajac who passed away in February of 2010. He was a fierce lover of the outdoors, especially California's State Parks. He was also an avid runner and cycler throughout his life.
I have never been much of a sporty girl, but after my father passed away I found relief in the monotonous and methodical runs I would take to clear my head. As I have trained and built up my endurance, my dad's spirit has kept me going. Please help support me while I run and support my father's love of Calfornia's State Parks.
About the California State Parks Foundation
Currently, 70 parks are slated for closure in the State Parks system. Among these are Henry Coe State Park which was one of my dad's favorite places to hike and explore. To find out more about the state of our parks, check out the website here:
This is not an official charity of the San Francisco Marathon, but we are setting a group goal of $1000 to give to the parks. Please donate whatever you can to this cause. I know times are tough and pocketbooks are empty, but really anything you can give would be wonderful.
You can also support us non-monetarily by telling me your favorite song to run/exercise to, any training tips or by coming out to the race to cheer us on. You can also check out information on the website for how you can volunteer in your local state park.
If you have any questions, please email me at:
Thanks for all your support, love and good thoughts throughout the last year and a half. I look forward to working with you all to honor my dad and support this great cause. Thanks!
