BENEFITING: THE SERGEANT THOMAS JOSEPH SULLIVAN CENTER
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2013
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
I must be off my rocker.
I have officially registered to run 26.2 miles in a few short months in the Marine Corps Marathon. In fact I PAID to run 26.2 miles, AND committed to reaching a fundraising goal of $500.00. I've really lost it.
Why am I doing this? I am running this marathon to support the Sergeant Sullivan Center, a nonprofit that spreads awareness and support for the 1 in 3 veterans that suffer from unexplained post-deployment heath issues. This organization was started by the family of Sergeant Tom Sullivan, a Marine who lost his own battle with post-deployment health issues in 2009 after serving in Iraq.
I had always heard of the psychological health issues so many veterans are plagued with, but it is not until I began working for my current boss, Tom's little sister, that I learned about the magnitude of physical health problems so many veterans are experiencing. These problems are real, and while many doctors are sweeping them under the rug because they don't have answers, the Sergeant Sullivan Center is committed to doing just the opposite.
To learn more about post-deployment health and to see all of the amazing things the Sergeant Sullivan Center is doing with your donations, visit their website: http://www.sgtsullivancenter.org.
Back to this fundraising thing. I can't do this alone, so don't leave me hanging. Please make a donation on my page in whatever capacity you can--every little bit makes a difference! Not only are you giving me encouragement to run this race (I need it!!), but you are supporting an amazing and very important organization.
