BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Research Foundation, Fisher Center
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
As many of you know, or will find out in this sentence, I will be running the ING NYC Marathon on Sunday November 3rd, 2013. The NYC Marathon is a HUGE deal for me but I also wanted to make the day about something more than myself and accomplishing my goal. So on that first Sunday this November I will be supporting a great cause and running for the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research.
My Husband Sam has lost family to this debilitating disease and his dream is to have a cure for Alzheimer’s in the near future. Sam is my biggest supporter and always comes to cheer me on and watch my races, even when it means standing alone for hours just to see me run by in a split second. He supports something I love, so I also want to support something very important to him. My goal is to raise $2,620 which is $100 for every mile of the marathon. For those of you who are interested I would love to see your smiling faces along the race route on November 3rd (I’m sure Sam would love the company). If you want to come out and cheer I will send you an update with my start time and wave color once I receive it!
Now here is a little background about the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research and why I chose it out of all the other Alzheimer’s Charities:
Based in NYC, The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research serves Alzheimer’s Patients and their families by seeking to understand the causes of, discover a cure for and improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Nobel laureate Dr. Paul Greengard directs the Foundation's team of internationally renowned scientists, and The Fisher Center also supports clinical research at NYU's Medical Center, led by pioneering researcher Dr. Barry Reisberg. Dr. Reisberg created the 'Clinical Stages of Alzheimer's' used today by physicians and care centers throughout the world. Only 8 cents out of every dollar is used for operational overhead expenses and they also scored the highest accountability/ transparency and Financial score (65.38 out of 70) on charitynavigator.com.
