EVENT DATE: Nov 10, 2013
We are the West Virginia Brown Dogs, and we are running the 2013 Marshall Marathon events on November 10th for Dog Bless WV. We encourage other running groups from across the nation to join us in our efforts to support a great orgnaization. You don't have to join our running group to join the charity team.
Dog Bless is a volunteer group whose mission is to reduce euthanasia at the Kanawha County Humane Association in Charleston, WV. Dog Bless uses its funds and donations to pull dogs from the shelter and send them to no-kill rescue organizations out of state. Volunteers advertise dog profiles and photographs via social media, organize networks of temporary foster homes for pulled dogs, coordinate vetting, and assist in transporting the dogs to their rescues.
Dog Bless desperately needs donations in order to pull more dogs and pay vet fees for injured and sick animals. Volunteers and foster parents donate their time, homes, food, and love to these wonderful animals. What they do is amazing, and they deserve more.
You don't have to be from WV to join the group or charity team, you can choose from many different race options, and all proceeds go directly to Dog Bless. We keep nothing. Please join us in our mission to save shelter pets and help them find forever homes.
To sign up:
-Register for your Marshall Marathon event.
-Choose one of the many events (5k, marathon relay, half-marathon, marathon, Marshall Challenge, etc.).
-Pay the race fee (consider this your donation to the cause).
-Notify Jennifer Smith (firstname.lastname@example.org) that you are registered and wish to join the charity race and/or team. She will instruct you on how to create your own Crowd Rise donation page for you to advertise to your friends, family, and the general public. She can also send you training plans, tips, and further team details for you to begin your race training!
If we gain enough interest, we will make custom shirts for all runners, so spread the word to your running friends. The more runners and donations that we receive, the more pets Dog Bless can save!
Note that the Marshall Marathon supports the Wounded Warrior Project, so by signing up for our charity and participating in one of the marathon races, you are actually contributing to two great causes. The West Virginia Brown Dogs are honored to have Jeff Antimary, a wounded veteran on our team. Jeff served as a Military Policeman in the Army for five years in Texas, Japan, and Iraq. He was seriously injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq on June 28, 2006 but continues to run despite his disability.
