BENEFITING: Kenner Family Research Fund
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
The Kenner Family Research Fund was founded by Barbara Kenner following the sudden and tragic death of her husband, Peter, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer only two months after being diagnosed. Unfortunately Peter's story is all too common. Pancreatic cancer is now the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States with only an overall 5-year relative survival rate of 6%. To meet this growing challenge, family and friends established the Kenner Family Research Fund in Peter's memory. The fund invests in innovative initiatives that will lead to the development of an early detection protocol for pancreatic cancer, with efforts focused on outcomes that will positively impact the time of diagnosis, the subsequent treatment options, and the quality of life for those individuals diagnosed with this disease.
I decided to form a small team of close friends to dedicate our runs in the NYC Half Marathon to both give back to someone who helped me tremendously during a difficult time in my life, and also raise funds and awareness for a terrible form of cancer that took the life of great man who was like family to me.
The day of the race will mark almost exactly six years since Peter's death, so I thought this would be a great way to remember him and also support all of his close friends and family, especially Barbara and their two children, Nick and Kate.
Any donations made to this fund though this fundraiser will be well represented in the NYC Half Marathon and will contribute to an amazing day of remembrance of Peter.
