BENEFITING: KNOCK FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 27, 2014
I'm running the Hamptons Half-Marathon next month!
This is my second annual fundraising effort to provide educational funds for children supported by The Knock Foundation in Tanzania. Last year's Mt. Kiliminjaro climb was SO rewarding and successful I want to keep it going!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.
This year I am running to raise awareness and funds specifically for educational scholarships through The Knock Foundation. Last year I was fortunate enough to visit both Jackson and Daniel (pictured) at their secondary school following my Kiliminjaro climb. I have personally sponsored Daniel's education for the last two years of his secondary schooling and will continue to do so until he graduates.
It was really wonderful to meet their teachers, see where they sleep and eat and see how healthy they are in a supportive and safe environment. This was particularly gratifying as I had seen their potential while they were living at Matumaini orphanage (also sponsored by Knock) and now it's being realized.
By running this half-marathon (running really is not my favorite activity) I hope to raise money for several more educational scholarships to provide real opportunities for other children living at Matumaini orphanage.
This year I have not set a specific fundraising goal. I will be so grateful for ANY support you can give to these kids. Just to give you a reference, the cost of one full ride four-year government secondary school scholarship is $1,500.
Again, any amount you can give will go a long way. And, your support will certainly be the wind beneath my wings as I run my heart out next month. (It certainly got me up that monster of a mountain!)
Love and gratitude,
