Running For The NICU #2
Organized by: Kristen Davis
EVENT DATE Oct 19, 2014
Having my son was without a doubt the most exciting, yet scariest time of my life. Going into the hospital to have a child you never want to think the worst of things, you always want to come out with the healthiest baby possibly...which isn't always the case for everyone.
The night my son was born was such a great experience for my husband and I, until the nurses came in and told us he needed to be taken to the NICU. The NICU?! What?! Why?! He was perfect and beautiful! Unfortunately, they were concerned because he was hypothermic and his glucose levels were low; so off they went...into the dreaded and scary NICU. Tears were just rolling down my face not being able to have my son by my side for those nights...
Seeing him placed in the NICU, in his incubator, trying to warm up, brought pain to our hearts. We watched him every day and gave him as much love as we could through the tiny holes in that plastic box, until they finally took him out of it and into a warm bed without the incubator...and what a great day that was!
Luckily enough, after a LONG week of him being in the NICU he was finally released to go home! Hearing that he was allowed to leave brought tears of joy to my eyes.
SO! With all of this being said, I am fundraising to support babies that are placed into the NICU. My husband and I were some of the lucky ones that were able to bring home a healthy baby at the end of the week...again which many do not get to experience.
Helping Hands is an organization that provides services and support to those families who have children placed in the NICU. They provide mentors, educational materials, helpful resources, angel gowns, as well as a "helping hand".
Being a person that has experienced a child in the NICU, this organization has become near and dear to my heart. I plan on running as many races as I can to help raise money for those families in need and the organization.
