BENEFITING: BAREFOOT FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 02, 2011
I was born in Colombia but adopted by 2 amazing people who brought me to the U.S. along with a new brother. We were given a good education...something that should be accessible to all. We were lucky enough not to have to endure the challenges that many Colombian youth must endure. I am so grateful for what I have and want to give back to those not as fortunate as I am.
In October, I will be running the Disney Half Marathon, my first half marathon, to raise $1,000 to supply 40 Colombian students with enough school supplies for the entire year. For $25, a child can purchase notebooks and paper, pens, crayons, glue, backpacks and other things that will help students to learn....things that many of us take for granted.
All money raised will go to The Barefoot Foundation, a U.S. non-profit, non-governmental organization created by internationally acclaimed recording artist and humanitarian, Shakira. The organization is devoted to ensuring that every child can exercise his or her basic right to a quality education and is dedicated to helping Colombian children who have been victimized by poverty and displacement.. I strongly believe that poor education is the root of so many issues in our society and I am running 13 miles to help support this cause. Please help me reach my goal of $1,000 so that Colombian children are not left behind.
