As some of you know, I have been selected to run in the 2014 Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12th, 2014! [Thank you lottery gods.]
In July 2013, I had the privilege to run in the Napa to Sonoma Wine Half Marathon with Team Challenge, benefiting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. While this was not my last race, this was the last race I ran with a purpose other than to hit a new PR [personal record for all my non-runner supporters].
With only 20 days until race day [wow, now my adrenaline is pumping!] I've decided to run for something more than a new PR. I will be Running On Purpose for 26.2 miles through the city streets of Chicago for Bridging Freedom!
The Purpose I've chosen to spotlight is a dark topic that many of you are completely unaware is happening right here in our beautiful U.S. of A to our children and young girls. Child sex-trafficking.
While living in Tampa, FL I was caught off guard when I learned of this modern-day slavery & was alarmed to hear Tampa was one of the top cities in America for sex-trafficking. The most disturbing fact--- the average age of these girls is 12 years old. [No, that is not a typo.] These girls are forced to provide sexual acts for an average of 15 men a night. [Again, no that is not a typo, this is real life.]
My goal is to raise $500 in 20 days for Bridging Freedom, a non-profit faith-based organization in Tampa whose mission is to combat domestic minor sex-trafficking by bringing restoration to those rescued and victim prevention to those they reach with their message. [For more info, visit: bridgingfreedom.org.]
This is a topic that ignites a desire in me to do something. And you can do something too by making a donation today!
With statistics that startling & powerful, how can we turn our heads?
I'll run the 26.2 miles, YOU pledge $26.2 towards my cause Running On Purpose for Bridging Freedom.
Thank you for your support, and together I hope to make a difference.
Happy Running (and Funding!),
