In 2009 I found myself wanting to accomplish more. I wanted to set goals that I never sought before. I wanted to push myself to the limits. I was tired of sitting around not doing much. Running was always something I seemed to start, but never seemed to go far. So I decided to register for one of the most popular mini-marathons in the country. The mini in Indianapolis. That was exactly the motivation I needed to accomplish a personal goal. During the mini, I felt a sense of comradery with my fellow runners. I felt free. I felt a great sense of personal pride knowing that I accomplish this amazing goal. Shortly after, I got pregnant with my son and spent a couple years taking care of him. In 2011, the running bug started itching again. But this time, I decided to aim even higher and registered for the Mini in May and then the Chicago Marathon in October. I wanted to show my son that you can do anything if you have a goal and believe that you can reach it.
And here I am again, finished with the Mini and starting training for the Chicago Marathon. This time, I have set a higher goal to achieve. I was lucky enough to gain entry into the Chicago Marathon through the lottery. But, I still wanted to do more. I wanted my marathon to impact others as well as myself. I was instantly drawn to the Girls on the Run logo. When I looked deeper into the program, I knew I had to be a part of it. This wonder group of people has put together a program for girls in 3rd grade to 8th grade to help in goal setting, comradery, and goal reaching that I experienced on my own through running. These girls get to experience that sense of freedom and pride that I have.
So as part of my ever growing goals, I ask your help. Could you please help me reach my goal by ‘sponsoring’ a mile of my marathon by donating $25? During each mile sponsored, I plan to think about the love, and kindness, and connection to the person who was giving, not just to me, but to the girls of Girls on the Run.
