BENEFITING: JOHNNY MAC SOLDIERS FUND INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2015
We're running 10 miles to Give Back Through Education!!!
Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund's mission is family--to give back through education to those who have given so much. We assist veterans and family members with education expenses, with a special emphasis on college scholarships for children who have lost a parent in the line of military duty. Since 9/11, over 4,000 children have lost a parent serving in the military.
The charity is inspired by Colonel John “Johnny Mac” McHugh who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Colonel McHugh was killed in action in Kabul, Afghanistan on May 18, 2010. A West Point graduate and Army aviator, McHugh served over 24 years in the U.S. Army and is remembered as a leader, family man, friend.
Johnny Mac's daughter Kelly Stewart is our team captain. “The Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund has been there for my family and me through thick and thin,” said Kelly. “Having the opportunity to raise money for fellow children of fallen soldiers, military families and veterans alike while running in this year’s Army 10 Miler is an honor.”
To date, the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund has awarded nearly $1.1 million in scholarships to children of the fallen and to veterans.
