BENEFITING: COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS OF BURLINGTON INC
EVENT DATE: Apr 12, 2014
I love the Community Health Centers of Burlington because they serve folks from all over the 802 at their five sites in Vermont, providing crucial medical and dental services regardless of ability to pay. This April I'll be running thru the 802 in the Half Marathon Unplugged to bring awareness to the services that CHCB provides and to raise funds for this stellar organization!
My fundraising goal is to help fill CHCB's need for a kid-friendly waiting room! CHCB's Riverside location is in need of a bookshelf and children's books to fill it with, as well as educational toys and wall decals to make for a more comfortable, calming and friendly visit for children and their families. Any and all donations will be put directly toward this cause.
CHCB has served as my medical and dental home for nearly ten years, and my providers have really made it feel like home. Wanting to get more involved with CHCB, I also served a term on the Board of Directors as a patient representative.
In addition to providing primary and preventative medical care for folks of all ages, CHCB offers many other services, including no- and low-cost dental care, counseling, lactation support, a transgender health clinic, free anonymous HIV/STD testing and counseling, a youth health center, telephone interpreter services (10% of CHCB patients use an interpreter), a homeless healthcare program, a same-day sick clinic and a school-based dental center for children in Burlington schools who do not have a dental home.
CHCB is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, scoring a Level 3---the highest level a health center can achieve.
