BENEFITING: The ALS Association Connecticut Chapter
EVENT DATE: Nov 10, 2013
Please help me to reach my goal of $1000 to raise money to Fight ALS! I will be running a Half Marathon this fall as 'Cheryl's Warrior' in honor of my mother in law who is fighting PLS, a disease akin to ALS and supported by the ALS foundation. All proceeds go directly to the Connecticut ALS Chapter. Please read below for information on this disease:
Primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) is a rare neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness in the voluntary muscles. PLS belongs to a group of disorders known asmotor neuron diseases. Motor neuron diseases develop when the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement degenerate and die, causing weakness in the muscles they control.
PLS only affects upper motor neurons. There is no evidence of the degeneration of spinal motor neurons or muscle wasting (amyotrophy) that occurs in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
