The events of December 14, 2012 in my hometown have left me feeling helpless and unable to give back to the community that has given me so much for the past 20 years. I've participated in fundraisers and tried to donate my time to organizations that needed assistance while I was home for the holiday, but it hasn't felt like enough.
Now that I'm back in Spain, I've decided on a course of action that helps my own mental health as well as my community's well-being. I have decided to participate in a HALF MARATHON on March 17th here in Spain to raise money for Newtown Youth and Family Services (donated through United Way of Western Connecticut)!
I've personally utilized Newtown Youth and Family Services on and off since I was little and they provide wonderful services to those in the community who need it. I think that ongoing mental health services will be a very important step in the healing process of my community so this is the area where I want to make my contribution.
For those of you who know me well, you know that this is a HUGE challenge for me since I've never particularly liked running! Once a thrower, always a thrower but even throwers can run if they put their minds to it! ;)
Please help me raise money for this great organization and my amazing community of Newtown!
Thank you in advance for your support!
P.S. I have a donor who is willing to match donations up to $500, so all donations up until this point will be doubled for twice the impact!
