Please consider a donation to support Team MelaNOmore and the Claire Marie Foundation through our participation in the Baltimore Running Festival. This organization supports education, prevention, and early detection of adolescent and young adult melanoma. My best friend, Michelle Thomas, was diagnosed with Stage 1B melanoma four years ago. This was a scary experience as she underwent surgery to have the spot removed as well as some lymph nodes. She has been cancer-free since this episode and we are so grateful she detected the spot in its early stage. Because of Michelle, I decided to schedule a skin check to have a questionable spot on my forehead looked at. The dermatologist removed the spot, sent it for testing and discovered that it was a form of skin cancer called Basal Cell Carcinoma. Fortunately, this is the least risky type of cancer with early detection, but it did require some additional surgery to remove the remaining cancer. Annual skin checks are the key to prevention and early detection!
The Claire Marie Foundation was established in 2014 following the death of Claire Marie Wagonhurst, a sparkling 17 year old who lost a long battle with adolescent melanoma as a result of changes her body went through during puberty.
The Baltimore Running Festival is considered one of the best races on the East Coast and we are so proud to be a part of this great Maryland tradition. Funds raised will support our mission to raise awareness, clarity and hope in the fight against adolescent and young adult melanoma through prevention, education, and awareness programs.
