My personal awakening actually occurred in the summer of 2007 when I interned with a small non-profit organization who has the primary mission of empowering the church to live alongside those in spiritual or physical need. It literally reshaped my perspective of the gospel. When I moved to Baltimore, I searched and searched for an organization with that same model or perspective. The perspective that dismissed the patriarchal view and adopted the view of empowering our brothers and sisters. I was encouraged and motivated to discover HopeSprings. Although, I had a background in living alongside those in desperate or hard situations, it seems to always refresh me to know that there are people across the country that believe in meeting people exactly where they are. HopeSprings has been a place of hope for me. I firmly believe that the church is on it's way to an empowering awakening. Through this, it is essential that we, as Christians, should unite with our brothers and sisters. I believe that HopeSprings is an essential part of this awakening. It is an honor to be running in this half marathon. I have never run this distance before, but I am confident with the loving support of family and friends, I can do it! Please keep me in your prayers as I begin training and running to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Baltimore City.
