BENEFITING: THE MAYORS FUND TO ADVANCE NEW YORK CITY
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
The 2012 NYC Marathon, which was set to take place this weekend, has been postponed. The public outcry against holding it just six days after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy was just too much. People couldn't grasp the metaphor of how running a race infuses you with strength to defeat overwhelming odds.
The NYC Marathon has always inspired people to strive, to hope, to attempt to accomplish the unthinkable. I started running only three and a half years ago, after the death of my partner. It was running that helped me survive the darkest period of my life. As the victims of Sandy struggle to cope with displacement, hopelessness and even death, perhaps the marathon can help inspire them to rise up and fight for their lives.
But money helps too. The money we raise here will go to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, specifically to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Eventually this race will happen. In the meantime, give today. Help us run Sandy outta town!
