EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
This is our daughter Sofia. Sofia was born with Cystic Fibrosis and is an energetic 8 year old girl who loves to dance, do gymnastics and play with her brother and sister. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe.
In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.
In the 1950s few children lived long enough to attend school but now because of the amazing work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and supporters like you, Sofia is thriving and doing well. She does lung therapy several times a day and takes numerous daily medications to stay healthy.
We would love for your support so that Sofia and the many others with Cystic Fibrosis can live out their dreams. Today, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation maintains a robust pipeline of therapies that target CF from every angle, including the root cause of the disease. This is only possible because of supporters like you. Please help us, Dr. Geno and friends raise awareness and funds as they Run for a Cure for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thank you so much for your support!
