BENEFITING: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
It has been three years since my last half marathon. I knew that when it was time to train again, I wanted to train for a reason and with a team. I am grateful and blessed with two beautiful and healthy boys. I wanted to be able give back to a cause that strives to make huge impacts in research that leads to healthy children, longer life expectancies and overall better quality of life for those who have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
Real progress toward a cure has been made, but the lives of young people are still cut far too short. Won’t you join us in continuing the search for a cure? Please consider making a small donation and help add tomorrows to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis!
What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond!
Thank you for your support and encouragement! Most of all, thank you for making a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis.
